O’Donnell
Casa Patio
The apartment had not been updated since it was built. Its dated layout centred on a winding corridor that intensified both the lack of light, caused by its north-facing orientation, and the sense of depth.
At first, the owners hoped to keep as much of the apartment as possible. Ultimately, a complete renovation offered the best way to bring out its strengths and make it work for the way they live.
The result is a home with generous, well-used spaces. Its defining feature lies at the centre: a conceptual courtyard in the darkest part of the apartment, bringing light to the entrance hall and study. A backlit stretched-fabric ceiling acts as a skylight, creating an impression of light and depth while giving the plan a clearer sense of order.
